First steps toward abolishing the police-prison-industrial complex is to dismantle its infrastructure and shifting resources toward things people need like food, housing and community-based safety practices. From an abolitionist perspective, the events in the U.S. Capitol on January 6th have only made it clearer why more policing does not equate to more security. From their foundation, the institution of the police/prisons have always been a weapon of white supremacist terrorism. This fact is not up for debate. Until this American tradition is abolished, the outcome will continue to be genocide against the African American population.
