DC Metropolitan Police Department spent January 6 & 7, one of the darkest moments in our nation’s history, publicly spewing patently false, divisive, incendiary, self-serving rhetoric to denigrate Black Lives and provide cover for their KKKlanish brotherhood.

For the record:
- It is not important to disparage activists while a coup attempt, involving cops and members of police unions from across the country, is in progress.
- It is unconvincing that “Police serve one of the most important roles in society: safety and security in our daily lives.” while members of the police force are actively storming the Capital.
- The quality of the ‘professional and responsible policing‘ that the Police Union is referring to has been up for serious debate for quite some time now. The siege on the Capital, that was in progress when this statement was released, is proof that the ‘safety of all‘ is not the first priority. “In order to appropriately address threats like the one that happened yesterday, supporting and expanding professional and responsible policing, is paramount to the safety of all.“
- Political participation is central to every US citizen’s ability to secure the blessings of liberty and is our right under the US Constitution. Since the DC Police have a problem with the US Constitution, we are more than happy to relieve them of this overwhelming burden that prevents them from adhering to the law they swore an oath to uphold. “In order to appropriately address threats like the one that happened yesterday, supporting and expanding professional and responsible policing, is paramount to the safety of all. This is why #AbolishThePolice must prevail. The fact that the knee-jerk reaction of the DCMPD, particularly while the biggest crisis of our lives is unfolding all around us, is to continue their verbal assault on Black Lives in public spaces, proves once and for all time that this murderous institution must be abolished completely.
6. Today as we look at what unfolded and how many people in the US voted for him, many will forget that Trump is not the real problem. Remember we have 74 million Americans – 25% of the population – who voted for him and that’s a lot of people… we don’t know who they are… and “storming the Capitol” is the least of my worries.
