One of our Chapter’s Core Organizers, April Goggans, filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in 2017 after repeatedly witnessing police monitoring and harassing her at her home and neighborhood located in MPD’s Seventh District since 2015. Police have followed, monitored and intimidated her during actions, outside of Black Lives Matter meetings, and on other occasions.
April is now asking the Court of Appeals to rule that MPD failed to conduct a reasonable search for records responsive to her FOIA request. The argument in April’s case is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. June 14, along with two other cases. This is the most important hearing in this case.
